Privacy policy

Last updated: July 15, 2026

The Quebec Funeral Guide places great importance on protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use our site, why we collect it, how we protect it, and what your rights are. It is drafted in accordance with Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25, and other applicable laws.

Who is responsible for your information

The site guidefuneraire.ca is operated by [nom de l’entité légale], whose registered office is located at [address], in Quebec.

In accordance with the law, we have designated a person responsible for the protection of personal information. You may contact them with any question about this policy or to exercise your rights:

What information we collect

We designed this site to collect as little as possible. In practice, we collect two types of information.

Information you provide voluntarily. If you write to us, report an error, or fill out a contact form, we collect the information you choose to send us, such as your name, email address, and the content of your message. This information is used only to reply and process your request.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we collect certain technical data when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, date and duration of the visit, and the site you came from. This data helps us understand site usage and improve it. It is not used to identify you personally.

We never collect sensitive information about you, and we never ask for financial information, since we do not sell any products or services.

About business data

Our site lists funeral service businesses. This data comes from public sources, notably Quebec’s official register of funeral service businesses. It concerns businesses and their representatives in the course of their duties, and is not personal information within the meaning of the law. This policy covers your information as a site visitor. Business requests about their own data are handled under our terms of use, in the section on correction and removal.

Why we use your information

We use the information described above only for the following purposes.

  • Responding to your messages and requests
  • Understanding how the site is used and improving it
  • Ensuring the security and proper operation of the site
  • Meeting our legal obligations

We never use your information to sell you anything, and we do not sell or rent it to third parties.

Cookies and tracking technologies

Our site may use cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small file placed on your device that helps the site function properly and measure audience.

We distinguish two categories. Strictly necessary cookies, which ensure basic site operation, and audience-measurement cookies, which help us understand site usage in aggregate. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies or to be notified when they are set. Refusing non-essential cookies does not prevent you from browsing the site.

We do not use advertising cookies and we do not serve targeted advertising.

Sharing with third parties

We share your personal information only with providers who help us operate the site, and only to the extent necessary. This includes our web host, our audience-measurement tool, and, where applicable, a map display service. These providers are required to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us.

Some pages display information from third-party services, for example ratings and reviews published on external platforms. When you interact with that content, those third parties’ privacy practices apply. We invite you to review their policies.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect our rights.

Hosting and transfers outside Quebec

Our providers, including for hosting and audience measurement, may store or process data outside Quebec, including outside Canada. When that is the case, we take reasonable steps so that your information receives adequate protection. By using the site, you are informed that some technical data may be processed abroad.

Retention period

We keep your information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, or for the period required by law. Messages you send us are kept while we process your request and for a reasonable time afterward. Technical visit data is kept in aggregate form. When information is no longer needed, we destroy or anonymize it.

Your rights

Under Quebec law, you have several rights regarding your personal information.

  • The right of access: to know what information we hold about you
  • The right of rectification: to have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected
  • The right to withdraw your consent
  • The right to portability of certain computerized information
  • And, in cases provided by law, the right to request that dissemination of information cease or that a link be de-indexed

To exercise any of these rights, write to our personal information protection officer at the contact details above. We will respond within the time frames set by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may file a complaint with the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access. No system is perfectly secure, but we strive to maintain a level of protection suited to the sensitivity of the information we hold, which is low because we collect very little of it.

Confidentiality incidents

In the event of a confidentiality incident presenting a risk of serious injury, we will take the measures required by law, including notifying the individuals concerned and the Commission d’accès à l’information, and recording the incident in a register.

Minors

This site is intended for an adult audience and does not target minors. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

Changes to this policy

We may amend this policy to reflect changes to the site or the law. Any change is published on this page with an updated date. We invite you to review it from time to time.
